My Mental Health Journey
I started creating symbolic self portraits in 8th grade and have always used them as means of coping with life's turbulence. In Jan 2020 I decided to use my photography as a deliberate means of understanding my mental illness and documenting my journey of ups and downs and all arounds.
Each portrait in this series means something to me in regards to what was going on in my life at that time and how I was dealing with it.
In June 2020 I nearly lost myself after loosing both of my jobs due to Covid-19. I spent 6 days in the hospital after attempting to take my life. When I got out I decided to approach my photography completely differently and created The Modern Renaissance series with my mini series called "Re-birth".
*A few of these portraits I had some assistance in achieving.
